Our library held a significant collection of rare manuscripts that included a rare cultural artifact originating from a specific indigenous community. The artifact had been acquired by the library many years ago, but concerns were raised regarding its rightful ownership and the need for its potential repatriation to the indigenous community.
To address this issue, I initiated a comprehensive research project to establish the provenance of the artifact. This involved thoroughly examining the library’s acquisition records, correspondence, and historical documents related to the artifact’s acquisition. I also consulted with external experts, including historians, anthropologists, and representatives from the indigenous community, to gather additional information and perspectives.
