Throughout my career as an Academic Librarian, I have conducted numerous user research studies and needs assessments to inform library services and programs. These studies have helped me to gain a deep understanding of the needs of our users and have been instrumental in shaping our library’s services and programs.
One of the most successful user research studies I conducted was a survey of our students to determine their information-seeking behavior. The results of this survey helped us to identify the resources and services that our students needed most and allowed us to tailor our services accordingly. For example, we found that our students were struggling to find scholarly articles for their research papers. In response, we developed a new online research guide that provided step-by-step instructions on how to find scholarly articles. This guide has been very popular with our students and has helped them to be more successful in their research.
